Special Events Permit Clarification

September 21, 2021

During the 2019-2020 legislative session, the legislature passed Act 73 which revised 7 V.S.A. § 252(c) to read only: “A licensed manufacturer or rectifier may be issued not more than 10 special event permits for the same physical location in a calendar year.” This was effective July 1, 2020. This new language replaced the prior statutory language in 7 V.S.A. § 252(c)(1)-(2) that allowed multiple manufacturers/rectifiers attending a single event to aggregate onto one special event permit. As such, the Department will no longer be permitting  manufacturers to “piggyback” onto other manufacturers' permits, as that has been repealed. Manufacturers looking to attend one single event, must each seek their own Special Event Permit. Act 73 also eliminated the cap of 104 Special Events per year. The statute now requires the Department to limit the total number of Special Events Permits issued to one manufacture to no more than 10 in the same physical location.
