The way we help change our laws...
VTLSP members are playing an active political role in Vermont, representing teens from around the state. They have spoken on issues such as the .02 to 21 law, graduated licensing, and seat belt laws. This year, several students are on the tobacco task force, a board which drafts proposed tobacco related laws for consideration by the legislature.
This year, VTLSP is stepping up its involvement by training the Youth Advisory Council (Y.A.C.) members on what it is like to speak at a hearing at the state house. Each Y.A.C. member was given the opportunity to present their views on graduated licensing to a panel of mock legislators, which then asked questions, just as the legislators do. With the help of the Y.A.C. members, as well as support from VTLSP members as a whole, we hope to see graduated licensing pass into law during this legislative calendar.
